One of the early steps of developing a visual brand design is putting together a mood board. It is a useful part of the process for us and the client.
So, what is a mood board? Essentially a collection of images, colours, typography, patterns and textures to inform the mood and the look of the design going forward. It is led by the questioning done at the beginning of the process where we gather information about the vision and objectives of the brand, through our brand questionnaire and discovery call. (see this post for more).
The mood board is then presented, and the overall visual style agreed or tweaked from there before moving on to the development of the brand assets – logo, colour palette, typography, imagery style, graphics and patterns etc…
It serves as a reference guide, there to keep consistency and a clear direction. It sets the visual style part of the brand pyramid, before moving to the top elements! Do you need a new visual brand, or have one that needs a refresh? Get in touch!
